Whether redesigning your space or setting up a new one, there are many things you’ll want to consider in order to create a safe and nurturing environment that caters to the growth, learning and development of young children. The following are a few examples.

Creating well defined boundaries within the room gives students a clear understanding of where centres begin and end, use shelving units, rugs, classroom fixtures and more to create this definition.

Provide opportunity for movement and the freedom to explore.

Create a clear path of travel. Keep all quiet activity areas, for example reading nooks, away from this path as they tend to be busiest.

Have a varied level of stimulation throughout your space in order to cater to the range of developmental needs of each child in your care.

First impressions do matter! Create an entrance that is distinct and inviting to ALL who enter your centre.
